Good post Tim.

I don't think there'll ever be consensus on the topic, so it's good to hear others points-of-view.

My one hope with the Auckland logo (and others) is that once the logo is decided, a decent brand-agency will be brought on board to build the strategy, collateral and all else that is involved. Alt Group perhaps ; )

Great point Daniel. If you run an agency or are a freelancer, presumably you are more likely to oppose the competition, but you can be sure that designers on your payroll are eagerly trying to conceive their entry. As you say though, is $10k in prizes really enough to tempt them into a competition with such high expectations? What if it's three nights at Mollies? And given the fact that rebrands are so shortlived these days, will your design really be a lasting legacy to the city you love?

Great post,

The people that are holding this comp should thing seriously about this, a $10k best of auckland prize pack and a trophy are not enough to attract the best of designers? Who else would you want to work on the logo...

Also development of everything post the logo, if there is anything lacking in the logo design it would impact heavily on all the development work around the logo, for the print / signage / web design.

Then again i could be completely wrong, but I don't see this going anywhere good.
